Business Websites
Whilst watching the TV recently I noticed that 1and1 were advertising to businesses and saying that they could pick from hundreds of web templates and easily update them. I suppose if you are just starting off this could be an ideal solution for you and your business. Having said that I would beware of this kind of product; as from experience most of these sites created in this way will probably suffer poor SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and probably poor copy.
So it is my theory that these sites will be created and will highly unlikely be found by the public in the SERP's (Search Engine Results Pages).
For example in the advert it shows a search for SFE Architecture and in the search results below shows:
Homepage - SFE Architecture | London
sfe-architecture.co.uk
Some blurb
So my point is who is going to go into a search engine and look for SFE Architecture. If they already know about your company then you don't really need to be found in the search engines under your own name - they are going to look for "Architecture London" and surely this is the sort of keyword phrase you would want to be found under.
Also the title is very poor SEO; "Homepage - SFE Architecture | London". You shouldn't put the word homepage in your title - who is going to search for homepage for crying out loud? Just by putting the word homepage in your title tags has probably meant no chance of being found in the SERP's high up for a meaningful term.
By getting this kind of service which is available all across the internet you could end up by building a website with hardly any chance of getting any free traffic. Also a poorly created website will according to Google cost you more in PPC if you are going to use that method in promoting your website.
So be careful when getting this kind of deal as you might end up with a cheap website - cheap being the appropriate word.
